How it gets to the Mac

CalcBoard is an iPhone and iPad app, and Apple Silicon Macs can run iPad apps directly. Its App Store listing shows Mac compatibility: macOS 13.0 or later, on a Mac with an M1 chip or later. One purchase covers iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision, and Premium unlocks on all of them.

Why it still earns a window

macOS already multitasks, so “two calculators at once” sounds like a solved problem — open Calculator twice. Except macOS will not do that either: the built-in Calculator is a single-instance app. You can put a calculator next to a spreadsheet, but not next to another calculator.

CalcBoard sidesteps that the same way it does on iPhone: the panels are inside the app. One window, up to eight independent calculators, each in basic, scientific, programmer, or unit converter mode, with values passing between them.

What works well on a Mac

• Hardware keyboard. Digits and the numeric keypad, operators, parentheses, Return to evaluate, Escape to clear — full key map. The numeric keypad is the best way to drive it.
• Pointer input throughout, and a resizable window that reflows the panel grid.
• All four modes, including programmer mode with four bases on screen at once — genuinely handy next to a code editor.
• Exact decimal arithmetic, unlike almost anything else in reach.
• No ads, no subscription, no account.

What to expect on macOS

Because this is the iPad app rather than a separate Mac build, a few Mac-native conveniences are not there: no menu-bar item, Notification Centre widget, or Shortcuts actions, and window management follows iPad-app-on-Mac conventions. Control Center quick launch is an iPhone feature. It needs Apple Silicon — Intel Macs are not supported.

Everything the calculator itself does is fully there: all four modes, up to eight panels, the value tray, variables, history, and exact decimal arithmetic.
